Heartfelt Thanks to LegCo Member Hon Ginny Man Wing Yee for Supporting Our Type 1 Diabetes Advocacy
Youth Diabetes Action (YDA) recently had the privilege of meeting with Legislative Council Member Hon Ginny Man Wing Yee. Both parties engaged in an in-depth exchange of views regarding the medical support and needs of local young people with Type 1 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong condition where patients rely heavily on continuous blood glucose monitoring and insulin injections. Although modern continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) can manage blood glucose more effectively and improve the quality of care, they are consumables that require frequent replacement. The accumulated financial burden poses a significant challenge for many families.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Hon Ginny Man for her high level of concern for this issue. Hon Ginny Man stated that she will formally propose a recommendation to the Chief Executive in this year’s Policy Address submission, exploring the feasibility of the HKSAR Government subsidising the purchase of CGMs for young people with Type 1 diabetes. This will be a vital step forward in promoting local healthcare accessibility and easing the financial burden on grassroot families.
YDA remains committed to public education and policy advocacy. At the same time, we call upon our industry partners, healthcare professionals, and members of the diabetes community to raise our voices together and join hands to change the future for children with diabetes.
